F.S. Sheep Shearing Contest At BibberChill Festival

Smithfield’s annual winter BibberChill Festival has been brought forward this year to avoid the worst of the winter chill and is now scheduled for Saturday, 24 May.
With planning well underway, Festival 2008 will be the biggest to date and is being promoted on a wider scale than ever before.

Events will include the Free State Sheep Shearing Competition, a day-long cycle relay marathon, flower arranging competition, and a sheep dog demonstration. Among the entertainers in the evening will be Thys Die Bosveldklong. Special tables are being offered to sponsors for dinner with waiter service, as well as with prime positions for the show that follows.

A greater number of stalls will offer the widest possible range of craftwork, many types of food, jewellery, as well as a host of other products calculated to cater for all tastes.
Very much part of the festival, but held at the Red Barn Art Gallery in Smithfield town, an exhibition entitled “Art By Us” will be held as part of the day’s activities.

To add to the carnival atmosphere, a professional master of ceremonies will be at the microphone throughout the day, keeping the crowds informed about the large number of events taking place, relaying messages and playing music.

Entertaining the young is also a priority. Cycling events will cater for the whole family and there will be many other attractions to ensure that the kids are kept happy and fully occupied, leaving parents free to follow their own interests.
