At the Residents’ Forum meeting Dr. Niel Engelbrecht asked that it be noted that he took exception to the letter (Traffic Officer) Gerhard Friedrichs wrote in answer to the Residents’ Forum. The only place that there was any control over traffic was in the “poort” while in town there was no control whatsoever, said Dr Engelbrecht.
The question was also raised in the meeting as to what happened to the money made from fines for cars speeding in the “poort”? Nobody knew, nor do they know, how much money was collected by this method.
The meeting agreed that this money should be used to improve the roads in Smithfield.
I think it is sad and disgusting that a small town should have a vulture like Traffic cop, sitting in the poort, this is after all the first part/sight one has of Smithfield.
It creates a negative image related to the rest of the Traffic cops in SA with their sorruption and incapability to assist the public, which after all is what policing is actually about and NOT funds generation as used by our traffic cops throughout the country.
Smithfield is a small town…TAR AND FEATHER HIM….(LOL)
