With all systems GO, Smithfield’s BibberChill Festival 2008 is set to be a resounding success, with “Proudly Smithfield” featuring prominently during the day as emphasis is placed on art and craftwork produced by Smithfielders.
Record entries and the most ambitious programme to date promise to ensure that Saturday, 24 May will see new standards set for the town’s biggest day of the year.
Throughout the exhibition stalls, preference is being given to handcrafted items and creative workshops. All products will be required to meet high standards of quality and hygiene. Particularly strict requirements have been laid down to ensure that any stalls supplying food will meet the same standards both in preparation and handling
The largest ever number of exhibition stalls have been booked, at which everything from jewellery to various types of food will be on offer. Agricultural equipment will vie for attention with car displays and there will be plenty to keep children entertained.
Activities during the day will range from flower arranging competitions to team cycling competitions. The cycling will cater for all ages and run on a circuit which will enable festival crowds to watch the race in progress throughout the day – literally from 10am to 4pm.
Although much of the festival will be centred at the Country Club, what is probably the most important art exhibition ever held in Smithfield, will take place during the day at the Red Barn in town. This was decided because of the facilities, including special lighting, at the Barn. The Art Exhibition will be widely advertised at the Country Club to inform visitors of the presence of the large number of local and other artists and their works.
Full details of all the activities, including the evening’s entertainment, will be found on our advertisement pages.
