Crime awareness by Superintendent Bekeer
A father is supposed to be the protector and provider of his family but during the past month two juveniles were raped in Smithfield. This is of grave concern to us. Is Smithfield a safe place for our children?
For the past two months I have given a positive report on assault cases but for October the picture starts to change. This usually happens around pension pay-out time. I was always under the impression that the government provides this money in order for households to be able to buy food and clothes. Why buy alcohol with taxpayers’ money? It also seems as if people cannot accommodate and respect each other.
Let me also highlight a few successes achieved by the police: The two suspects allegedly responsible for the rape of the two juveniles have been arrested.
We have also been able to make arrests and recover stolen property. This proves that without a market, stolen property is always easy to recover. A hi-jacked vehicle was recovered in Smithfield.
Suspects who robbed people of their money and cellphones in the Rouxville area were arrested in Smithfield.
Schools were visited and learners were warned about crime. Hopefully their involvement in criminal activities will lessen.
We still continue with our door-to-door campaign and have received positive feedback from the community. Thank you.
The message is very clear and simple: Criminals are not welcome in Smithfield. Let the whole world know.
Criminals are once again warned that if they resist arrest, police will not hesitate to use maximum force.
As the Station Commissioner it is my dream to secure an effective and efficient service for the community. Please feel free to visit my office and report anything or make recommendations that will help to strengthen our relationship with the community.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the wives and children of all police officers. I know that every time your husband/father leaves the house for duty, you wonder whether he will come back home alive. Rest assured - the Almighty Father always protects us. That is why we appreciate you and cannot wait to be back with our loving families. When you come face to face with danger, Psalm 27 verses 2-3 will always give us strength.
THANK YOU SMITHFIELD.
