Local Dog Honoured in USA
Steffi, Wally Ward’s remarkably successful sheepdog, has been chosen as the face of the American Soldier Hollow trial, described as the premier international sheepdog trial of the year.
Mark Petersen, organiser of the Soldier Hollow Trial, in which Wally and Steffi took part last year, chose Steffi for the front cover of his programme, the posters and in major advertisements for the trial this year.
Steffi beat a number of other contenders for the honour and received a well-earned accolade from an authority on sheepdogs.
Mr David Rees, author, journalist, and respected Sheepdog Handler who reports for authoritive magazines in both England and America, said this of Steffi in his report for both magazines. “It was a pleasure to watch Wally Ward from South Africa and the pushy Steffi work sheep at Soldier Hollow.”
In a letter to Wally, Mark Peterson said: “Steffi made a major appearance on both the program and posters, as well on more than a dozen adverts promoting the event. I look forward to seeing you again someday when you are able to make the trip again. Many asked about you at this year’s classic and everyone was impressed by your dog and what great people you and your wife are.”
