THE POLICE BEAT - Police Involve Youth

 by Superintendent Bekeer

Concerned about the future of the youth, the SAPS has introduced a project aimed at combating and decreasing crime at schools.
During March, a debate was held at the Smithfield School to select Junior Station Commissioners.
Nthabiseng  Mohotsi was selected Junior Station Commissioner; Khuduza Ngalo, Junior Crime Prevention Commander and Dieketseng Tau, Junior Community Service Centre Commander.

The purpose of the project is to harmonise the relationship between the SAPS and scholars. It is expected that the school will benefit from the fact that the winners of these positions will hold meetings with their peers and school management in order to deal with problems and ideas. Anything more serious will be handed over to the SAPS.
The three winners will be given service training on how to deal with people and will be provided with police uniforms which they will wear once a week at school and also on projects and at Community Policing Forum meetings.
We would like to congratulate our detectives for the success in recovering stolen property. On 13 March, detectives arrested two suspects for housebreaking, even before the owners were aware of the crime.
Over the Easter weekend one rape case on a farm was reported. Women are again warned not to walk alone at night, particularly after drinking.
