Who we are

Smiffie News - or simply Smiffie to its friends - is a monthly contribution by a group of like-minded characters to the community we live in, which we believe should be kept aware of what is going on around them.

Generally, we are a positive bunch who like to present a positive view of life but, where necessary, take issue with people and organisations who we believe are not doing their job or in other ways letting down the community. This may not make us popular with everybody all the time but we try hard to be fair in any criticism.

Six of us are directly involved, one way or another - writing and photographing the stuff, obtaining the support of local businesses by way of advertising, or using the mysterious processes of computers to put it all together. And, we have the support of many within the community who offer ideas, write letters to the paper, and generally make us feel our efforts are appreciated - by taking the valuable step of actually buying Smiffie.

The paper already finds its way far further afield than we had thought possible and with the aid of our website we look forward to spreading our wings still further - as well as enabling visitors to the site to become proactively involved.
